Our Junior Instructor Program

Hi. I’m Brooke, My favourite dance styles are modern and street because they allow me to express myself through movement. I love learning new routines, trying different moves and showing my personality through dance.
I became a junior instructor because
I love dance and wanted to help younger
dancers learn, improve and enjoy dancing as much as I do.
My favourite things about being a
junior instructor is helping younger dancers learn new skills, grow in confidence and
improve their dancing. I enjoy being a positive role model, encouraging others and seeing them achieve their goals. It also allows me to develop my own leadership, communication and teamwork skills while
doing something I love.

Brooke, 10

Jazz

Jazz dance is an energetic and expressive dance style that blends African American
vernacular movements with European structural
techniques.
Common movements include the ball change, jazz square, chassé, and iconic jazz hands.

Musical theater

Musical theatre dance is a
dynamic performance style that blends choreography,
music, and character-driven storytelling.
Fundamental movements
include the pivot turn,
kick-ball-change, and
three-step turn, jazz square.

Lyrical

Lyrical dance is an expressive dance style that blends the grace of ballet, the power of jazz, and the freedom of
contemporary movement to tell a story inspired by song
lyrics. Dancers use ballet turns,
extensions, and leaps
combined with jazz lines and modern floor work.

Modern

Modern dance is a broad genre of theatrical dance that acts as a rebellion against the strict rules of classical ballet. Instead of trying to stay vertical like in ballet, modern dance embraces gravity, floor work, and weight.

contempary

Contemporary dance is a fluid, expressive genre of
performance art that blends elements from classical ballet, modern dance, and jazz while prioritizing personal
expression, versatility, and
freedom of movement. Performances often feature spontaneous movement
elements, giving dancers the freedom to interpret the
choreography fresh in the moment.

Street

Street dance is an umbrella term for a collection of
energetic, expressive social dance styles that evolved
outside of traditional dance studios in everyday spaces. This styles involves
breakdancing, sharp muscle movements, sudden freezing and fast rhythmic foot work.
